“A NEW WAY OF LIFE
Using the art of stitching we teach women how to convert a needle and thread into an income and a lifestyle for themselves.

My name is Shivachi, I am a single mother of one and currently imprisoned at Lang’ata Women’s Prisons. I joined Carkana in 2018 and I worked on this leopard piece. It took me seven weeks to complete it. Through this project I have been able to send money home for my child’s personal effects; she is in class eight preparing for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education National exams. This project helps me manage my stress as I put my entire mind in the stitch work instead of thinking about things that make me sad. I thank Carakana for keeping us engaged with these projects.
